HOW TO PASS THE IELTS EXAM IN KUWAIT

HOW IS IELTS SCORED?

The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam is scored on a nine-band scale, with each band representing a different level of proficiency in English.

Overall Band Score:

The overall band score is the main score that indicates your overall proficiency in English. It is the average of your scores in the four main sections of the IELTS exam: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

Individual Section Scores

Each of the four sections of IELTS (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) is scored separately. These scores are referred to as "module scores" or "sub-scores." They are scored on a scale of 0 to 9.

• Listening and Reading

In the Listening and Reading sections of IELTS, you receive a score based on the number of correct answers you provide. Your raw score is then converted into a band score using a conversion table.

• Writing

In IELTS Writing section, two examiners assess your writing tasks independently. Each examiner assigns a score between 0 and 9 for Task Achievement (Task 1 and Task 2) and for the four assessment criteria: Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. The two scores for each IELTS criterion are averaged to determine your Writing band score.

• Speaking

In the Speaking section of IELTS, your performance is assessed by a trained IELTS examiner using a detailed assessment criteria. You receive scores for Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation. The examiner assigns scores from 0 to 9 for each criterion, and these scores are averaged to determine your IELTS Speaking band score.

Rounding

The IELTS individual section scores (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) are rounded to the nearest 0.5 band score. For example, if your average module score for Writing is 6.25, it will be rounded up to 6.5.

Overall Band Score Calculation

To calculate your overall IELTS band score, the average of your four module scores (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) is taken. This average is also rounded to the nearest 0.5 band score. For example, if your average module score is 6.25, your overall band score will be 6.5.

OVERALL BRAND SCORE INTERPRETATION

Your overall IELTS band score is what most institutions and organizations consider when evaluating your language proficiency for academic admission, immigration, or employment purposes. Different organizations or institutions may have specific score requirements, so it’s important to check their individual requirements. The overall IELTS band score corresponds to a level of English proficiency. The bands range from 1 (Non-User) to 9 (Expert User), with a score of 9 indicating the highest level of proficiency. Here’s a general breakdown:

Band 1 (Non-User):

This IELTS score indicates that you have no ability to use the English language. You may not be able to understand or communicate in English at all.

Band 2 (Intermittent User)

At IELTS band 2, you have limited ability to understand and use English. You may be able to use very basic phrases and expressions in familiar situations, but your communication is extremely limited.

Band 3 (Extremely Limited User)

At this level of IELTS, you can understand and use only very basic English phrases and expressions. Your communication skills are extremely limited, and you may struggle even in simple, everyday situations.

Band 4 (Limited User)

In IELTS band 4 you have a limited ability to understand and use English in familiar contexts. Your communication is effective in very basic situations, but you face difficulties in complex language tasks.

Band 5 (Modest User)

An IELTS band 5 score indicates that you have a modest level of English proficiency. You can handle everyday situations reasonably well. Your communication is adequate, it lacks precision and fluency.

Band 6 (Competent User)

At IELTS band 6 You are competent and can understand and communicate effectively in most everyday situations. Your language skills are generally reliable, although you may still make occasional errors.

Band 7 (Good User)

At IELTS band 7 you have a good level of English proficiency. You understand and communicate fluently in most situations. You have a good command of English and can handle complex language tasks.

Band 8 (Very Good User)

At this level of IELTS score, you are a very good user of English. Your understanding and communication are almost fluent and very accurate. You can handle academic and professional tasks effectively.

Band 9 (Expert User)

This is the highest score on the IELTS scale. It indicates that you are an expert and your communication is fluent and near-native in quality. You can handle complex academic and professional tasks easily.

FAQ

What are the things that I should know about the IELTS Listening Section?

The Listening section consists of four recorded conversations or monologues. These recordings are played only once, so you need to listen carefully the first time. There are four sections in the Listening test, each with a different context and speaker(s). The topics and situations vary, but they are typically related to everyday life, education, work, or social situations. There are a variety of listening tasks you may encounter, including multiple-choice questions, matching questions (matching information to options), labeling diagrams or maps, completing sentences, and note-taking or summary tasks.

Infinity training center has a perfect track record and success rate as it employs experienced and qualified IELTS instructors who are knowledgeable about the exam format and scoring criteria. The classes are also held Online for individuals to provide more personalized attention from instructors, allowing for better feedback and improvement.

• IELTS Academic

The IELTS Academic test is designed for individuals who plan to study at universities and other higher education institutions in English-speaking countries. It assesses your ability to understand and use academic language and concepts.

• IELTS General Training

The IELTS General Training test is intended for individuals who are planning to migrate to English-speaking countries for work, training programs, or other non-academic purposes. It focuses on assessing your practical communication skills in everyday contexts.

The IELTS Writing section assesses your ability to express yourself in written English. It consists of two tasks: Task 1 and Task 2. In the Academic version, Task 1 usually presents a visual representation of information, such as a graph, chart, table, diagram, or map. In the General Training version, Task 1 requires you to write a letter based on a given situation. Task 2 requires you to write an essay in response to a question or statement. The essay should present an argument, provide an explanation, or discuss a given topic. You are expected to express your opinion, provide evidence, and draw conclusions.

There is no fixed “passing” or “failing” score in the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) exam. Instead, IELTS provides a band score system that assesses your proficiency in English across four main skills: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each skill is scored on a scale from 0 to 9, and you receive an overall band score, which is the average of your scores in these four skills.

Booking the IELTS exam is a straightforward process that can typically be done online. Once the training is done we will book the exam for you.
